Sarah Diamond Burroway

Consultant

Sarah Diamond Burroway joined Ashley|Rountree in 2024 as a subject matter expert, bringing nearly 28 years of leadership in grantsmanship and project management. Her expertise includes philanthropic relationships, economic and community development, education, entrepreneurship and small business start-up, public health/behavioral health, and Tribal governments. Sarah has a proven ability to work with both government and nonprofit organizations, delivering impactful and lasting results across funded initiatives.

During her career, Sarah has secured funding from the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Education, and Labor, NASA, and the Appalachian Regional Commission, as well as state programs and private foundations. Some of her standout projects include creating a business incubator to support emerging entrepreneurs in rural Ohio, leading a multi-county initiative in northeastern Kentucky to earn WorkReady status from the state Workforce board, and leading development of a $1.5 million federal grant for the Appalachian Underground Railroad Heritage project, aimed at boosting tourism, the arts, and cultural assets across a nine-county region of Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia along the Ohio River. Additionally, she co-led a CDC Foundation-funded project to provide capacity building and technical assistance to increase public health access across marginalized populations served by 51 U.S. community-based organizations.

A native Appalachian and Kentuckian, Sarah holds a master’s degree in Strategic Leadership from Mountain State University in Beckley, WV, and an MFA in Creative Writing Nonfiction from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY.
