Thom Whittinghill

Communications Specialist

Thom Whittinghill is a senior marketing and communications leader known for transforming complex ideas into clear, compelling stories that move organizations forward. With experience spanning healthcare, nonprofits, higher education, utilities, and creative agencies, Thom blends strategic thinking with hands‑on execution across writing, design, video, and digital channels.

Before entering the nonprofit consulting space, Thom led marketing and communications for Centene’s Indiana and Kentucky health plans, directing a $2M advertising budget and managing cross‑functional creative teams and agencies. His work included large‑scale segmentation strategies for more than 300,000 members, statewide media campaigns, high‑impact video storytelling, and executive communication improvements that increased clarity and alignment across clinical, compliance, operations, and product teams.

Earlier in his career, Thom served as Creative Director at Ideology Marketing & Design, guiding multichannel campaigns for aerospace, healthcare, transportation, and industrial clients. He also led statewide digital transformation efforts for Kentucky Electric Cooperatives, shifting 24 organizations from print‑only communication to a modern digital ecosystem and managing crisis communications during high‑risk operational events.

Thom’s foundation in communications began in the nonprofit and higher‑education sectors, where he supported PR, marketing, and storytelling initiatives for Home of the Innocents and the Sullivan University System. These early roles shaped his ability to translate mission‑driven work into narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.

Across every role, Thom is recognized for his ability to unify teams, simplify complexity, and deliver high‑quality creative in fast‑moving environments. His technical toolkit includes Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, CRM and analytics platforms, WordPress, video production tools, and AI‑powered content systems.

Thom holds a B.A. in Communications and an A.S. in Journalism from Indiana University. Playing guitar, kayak fishing, hiking, and reading are among his many hobbies.
