Interim Staffing
Ashley|Rountree and Associates can assign experienced management and fundraising staff for either part-time or full-time assignments. The assignments can be for as little as a few weeks or up to several months at a time. If needed, we can also lead the recruitment and selection process to permanently fill the position.
Our staff and associates have years of management experience in a wide array of nonprofit organizations. We maintain local, regional and national networks of highly qualified interim staffing professionals. Because of our extensive experience in the nonprofit sector, we understand both the general and specific needs of a mission-driven organization, whether it’s managing a day to day fundraising operation, a capital campaign, overseeing special events, or starting up a new annual fund.
When we’re asked to provide interim staffing, we work with you to evaluate the core skills and goals of the position and match your needs to the Ashley|Rountree associate who has the right skill set to be effective and can best fit the culture of the organization. We assist with interim staffing for executive, finance, fundraising and program management positions.
Success Stories
Case #1
Challenge
A community development corporation that focuses on revitalization through commercial development growth approached Ashley|Rountree for assistance. It was six months old and had only two employees when it requested assistance in starting and organizing its fundraising efforts.
How We Helped
Ashley|Rountree provided a highly experienced fundraising professional who worked 15 hours per week over a nine months period. The pressing need was to create the systems and processes to start, then effectively scale up to accommodate the growth of the fundraising function of the organization. At the same time Ashley|Rountree was asked to define the scope and responsibilities for the full-time Director of Development position, then lead the search to fill the position.
Outcome
While winning a number of substantial grants for the organization, Ashley|Rountree instituted systems and processes, installed and organized their donor database, created and shared specific timelines for upcoming opportunities and due dates, all while successfully conducting the search for the new Director of Development. After the Director began, Ashley|Rountree scaled back to about 15 hours per month to help with his orientation and onboarding as well as to provide support and answer specific questions as they emerged.
Case #2
Challenge
Despite much hard work and long hours by the development group, a senior living center was recognizing a long and slow drop in their fundraising results. If they were going to sustain the organization the situation would have to be quickly reversed. The budget was too tight to bring on another development professional. Because of their dire situation they contacted Ashley|Rountree for advice.
How We Helped
Ashley|Rountree suggested an interim staffing solution. But rather than sending a frontline set of hands to help make calls, we provided a senior level fundraising professional to imbed with their development group to provide an in-depth assessment of their day to day operation and make recommendations. By working shoulder to shoulder with the group full-time for a period of about 3 months, the Ashley|Rountree consultant was able to identify and rapidly implement several improvements. She was able to provide a coherent overall strategy for the group, clean up their very inaccurate donor database, strategically assign contact lists to specific individuals, set up a system to provide accurate progress reports to the CFO, and achieve the desired level of engagement from the Board.
Outcome
Any one of the solutions we provided would have improved the operation of this development group. Taken together the group made a quantum leap in effectiveness, and morale within the group dramatically improved.
